As addiction counselors, it is important to have a clear and complete knowledge of the drugs that are most often associated with addiction and addictive behavior. Understanding the causes and effects of each of these addictive drugs helps us to more effectively treat our clients in their fight against the disease of addiction.
The following are brief overviews of the most commonly abused drugs that you will see as addiction counselors. While the fundamentals of treatment of each of these drugs are similar, we must modify our treatment programs to account for different effects. Each drug and each individual is unique and the understanding of these details is all the more important for that reason.
